We are going on an oil clean up expedition in North West BC. It is very important to know the right things to pack. If you or your team forget an item you need, it will make it harder to do what we have to do.
So I am here to tell you exactly what you are going to need to take with you.
To start of you will definitely need clothing. Be sure to not bring too much because it may not fit in your shelter. But bring enough for the length of time you will be gone. You also may want to bring food. The best thing to bring is freeze dried food because it is compact and lasts for a long time. They are also super easy to prepare.
You will also want to bring travel sized personal hygiene items. Sleeping stuff is also a item you will need. For example blankets, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, and a pillow if needed.
Something else you may want to consider is a portable sauna. These are a great idea considering the benefits they include, and the other uses we have for them. Please not we are talking about portable infrared saunas, not the portable steam sauna.
First of all they are great for workers. So when you are done what you are doing for that day and want to loosen up, hop in the sauna and relax for a while. Another great use is you are exposed to oil fumes all day and you can detoxify yourself with the sauna.
What we actually these portable saunas for is placing wet or cold baby animals that have been rescued from the oil spill either to dry and or warm up. One great thing about portable saunas are these the fact they are easy to disassemble, fold and are small enough to be stored in the tent.
Some equipment you may need is a tent. You will want to bring something to sleep in at the camp you will stay at. You probably will want to bring sleeping bags other tent products you may need. You probably will need stuff to clean up the oil with so some things you will want are nets.
These are used to pull out larger stuff from the water. You should bring more than one size of nets as well. Skimmers are another type of equipment you will want to bring. What they do is skim on top of the water and pick up the oil on the surface of the water. Some other things that you may need are thermometer to check the temperature of the water.
Now I am ready to begin my expedition. It is important to know exactly what you need to bring because if you bring the wrong thing or forget something you will not be able to complete your job which will cause lots of problems for you, nature, and your team. So before you leave make sure to double check and be 100% sure you have everything you need.
It is easy to make a list. So if you follow these important steps you will have everything you need and you will do a great job and everything will work out perfectly.
